About Me.

Hollie Davis studied art and women’s studies at Denison University. Hollie Davis’s work is about the intersection of culture and collage. Her art is passionately the story of communities of all kinds. Hollie was very unsure of her ability as an artist early in her career but a professor made her realize her potential. He said “Real artists don’t wait for inspiration, your mind needs to know how to get down to work”. Ever since heading that advice Hollie has been eager to get down to work.

What is remarkable about art making is that she is empowered to create her own vision, her own focus, her own fantasy worlds; in which women and/or people of color are free. Diverse representations of beauty are the signature of my work as well as powerful use of color.

Color frees people to experiment with other elements in art like line, proportion, and texture. It allows people to connect the subjects of their gaze to references and connections that are poignant in their own memories. Through looking at her work the audience is understanding line shape form and color as a story of marginalized people. This story is a prologue to the politics of everyday life. It encourages people to think more critically as they focus their gaze in everyday life. Themes of her work? Identity, community, and individuality. How her work is described? Colorful, authentic, and impactful.

Experience.

She has experience in galleries and shows in Portland, NYC, Chicago, Columbus, Washington D.C, and France. Her work has been sold to clients in multiple states and has exhibited at the Southside Community Arts Center in Chicago a historic location. She has interned at galleries and worked in art collectives. She has been a teacher’s assistant at the undergraduate level as well as spoken at conferences. She has done art for zines and nonprofits as well as podcasts. My latest experience included an international virtual residency hosted by Mango Residencia out of Argentina with an exhibition in France. Currently her work is on display in Manhattan, Ontario Canada, and Chicago, Il.
